Unfortunately whenever you install a new program things don’t always work the way that they should. One good example is when you install the new Microsoft Outlook and find out that you can send email out fine but you aren’t receiving anything. It may not make you feel any better but you aren’t the only one that has had this problem.
Hopefully you have reached this before having gone to the trouble of uninstalling and reinstalling or adding and deleting profiles. If this is your problem this is a five minute fix that can save hours of troubleshooting not to mention the frustration.
Install Microsoft Outlook 2016
If you haven’t already done so Install Microsoft Outlook like you normally would. Fill in the information for your main email account and have Outlook ready to go when it is done. Ready to go that is except for the small problem of sending mail and not receiving. Once the installation is done check to make sure that you don’t actually receive the test message that Outlook sends out by default. The problem may actually no longer exist. Stranger things have happened.
What To Do Next So Outlook Will Send and Receive Mail
It seems that outlook actually has something selected by default that it shouldn’t. In all of the cases that I have come across this five minute procedure fixed the problem.
Open your account to where you can see the folders. Right click on top of Inbox. This will open a context menu usually to the right. Locate and regular click on IMAP Folders. This will bring up the IMAP Folders box which is where we need to be.
At the bottom of this box you see the “When displaying hierarchy in Outlook show only subscribed folders.” selection is selected. Click on top of the check mark so that this is selection is no longer checked.
Once you have removed the check mark click “Apply” then “OK” and you are done. Hopefully this was the sole problem you were experiencing and once back into your Outlook you can press send and receive and the world will once again be right.
